National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH)

The National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) is the country’s watchdog for media and communications regulation and surveillance. Its aim is the same in all fields: to foster development and market competition; and to effectively advocate the interests of consumers and users in the interests of Hungary's secure digital future, both at home and in its international relations. With every one of its resolutions adopted, initiatives taken and sanctions imposed, NMHH strives to maintain a reliable, predictable and smoothly functioning market environment in the Hungarian infocommunications sector to provide the conditions for satisfactory operations for service providers and users alike.
The Authority functions as a credible point of reference performing tasks that are indispensable and essential for economic progress and as such, it contributes to the development of the country. It operates as a “convergent” authority that puts equal focus on media and communications – a pioneering stance even at an international level. The organisation works for a sustainable digital future for Hungarian citizens and businesses by supporting the safe integration of Hungarian society, economy and culture into the digital world, protecting children in the online space, and acting as a cooperating authority to promote optimal market solutions.

The NMHH's social responsibility is to increase media awareness and develop media literacy through its media education activities. The protection of children and the enforcement of children's rights in the infocommunications space are its priority tasks. It operates, among others, the Internet Hotline online information and assistance service, the Bűvösvölgy media awareness training centres, organises a lecture series entitled "Is my family mobile?" in cooperation with the Momentán company, and provides information to parents and children through the gyerekeaneten.hu portal and numerous printed publications.
