Mária Kopp Institute for Demography and Families

Our institute started its activities in 2018, the Year of Families, following the spirit of Professor Mária Kopp, in order to contribute to the birth of the desired and planned children in Hungary, to find the most appropriate and effective answers to our demographic problems, and to strengthen, multiply and expand the families that sustain the country.

The Maria Kopp Institute for Demography and Families (KINCS) is operating as a support institution of the State Secretariat for Families of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation. KINCS has been conducting family science research and analysis since 2018, connecting the world of science with policy- and decision-making. In the spirit of Professor Mária Kopp, we work to strengthen families. Our institute was named after the former director of the Institute of Behavioural Sciences of Semmelweis University and founder of the Demographic Roundtable. Her motto was:
"Let the desired and planned children be born!"

In Hungary, the family is a lasting value, a treasure that provides a decisive and sustaining force even in times of danger. At KINCS, we conduct national and international research and analysis that provides the basis for government action related to families and demography. We cooperate with a wide range of national, international and cross-border scientific, professional, and non-governmental organisations. We stand up for family values, which is why we launched the Executive Network for Family Values in 2019. We believe that the future of Hungary and Europe lies in families.
