Our aim is to support the activities of organisations and associations carrying out practical work through scientific analysis and research. Our mission is to publish studies in an accessible format that raise public awareness of the dangers of psychoactive substance use. To address the social and mental effects of illicit drug use, our interdisciplinary research team brings together knowledge from various disciplines to address, taking into account multiple relevant aspects.

We believe it is important to clarify that, according to the currently accepted conceptual framework, our Institute defines drug use as the use of illicit psychoactive substances, which can be categorised as narcotics, stimulants, hallucinogens, and drugs with a contested classification or complex mechanism of action.

Professional materials produced by the Institute

Our main research topics include the issue of illegal drug use from a psychological, legal, sociological and criminological perspective. The scope of our research covers the use of all psychoactive substances, with a special focus on specific groups. We also address the social perception of psychoactive substance use, stigmatisation and related motivational factors. We focus on harm reduction and other preventive activities, as prevention is a key element in avoiding addiction. The right attitude of the environment and the support of the family, which is also a central point of our research, also play a crucial role therein.

Where to find us

Our research papers are published primarily in our scientific journal, Interdisciplinary Drug Reviews, and extracts are published in the Psychoactive section of the journal Mindset Psychology, launched with the support of the Drug Research Institute. To emphasise the educational nature of our work, we place great emphasis on communicating in an accessible way. To this end we are also present on social media platforms.
