Brent Barron is responsible for CIFAR’s strategic planning and organization-wide transformative change, including the development of its strategy. Previously he worked in government relations and public policy, including the development of Canada’s national AI strategy—the first in the world. He also led programming that explored the social, legal, and ethical aspects of AI, which supported work on the relationship betwee AI and child development, defense and security, and Indigenous perspectives and protocols on AI.
Prior to CIFAR, Brent worked in the Government of Ontario, Canada in research policy and IT strategy roles.
