István Balogh has been serving as Hungary's Permanent Representative to NATO and Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade since 2023. Prior to this role, he held the position of Deputy State Secretary for Security Policy and Political Director at the same ministry from 2018 to 2022. From 2014 to 2018, he was the Head of the Security Policy and Non-Proliferation Department at the Ministry. Between 2010 and 2016, Balogh was an Assistant Professor and later an Associate Professor at the National University of Public Service and its predecessor, where he taught subjects related to security studies. Additionally, he was associated with the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs from 2011 to 2014.
